Dean Clancy misses out on medal at European Youth Championships

Sligo teenage boxer Dean Clancy has missed out on his third consecutive medal at the European Youth Championships in Sofia after losing a split points decision to England's Mohammad Adan (3-2) in Sunday's quarter-final bantomweight contest.

Clancy, who's 17 and trains out of the Sean McDermott boxing club in Manorhamilton, had won silver medals at the two previous European Youth Championships.

Raphoe's Leah Gallen is assured of at least a bronze medal in the 69kg division after she won her quarter-final on Saturday.

Gallen is a five-time national champion and won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in 2018.
