Déjà Vu North West raises €75,000 for bereaved rally families

The organisers of the inaugural Déjà Vu North West have announced that April's event raised €75,000 for the families of Gene McDonald and Dáire Maguire, the drivers killed during last year's Sligo Stages Rally.

Justine Hogan (Gene McDonald’s partner) and Breda Maguire (Dáire Maguire’s wife) accepted the donations at a function in the Sligo Park Hotel on Sunday last.

Robert Lyttle of Connacht Motor Club, who organised the event alongside RPM Motorsport Ltd, said: “We have been overwhelmed at the generosity of the entrants, the sponsors, and the public who came to watch them in April.

"Their donations have enabled us and the Connacht Motor Club to gather this very significant amount for the families of Gene McDonald and Dáire Maguire."

The Déjà Vu North West saw 150 current and past rally drivers, and their cars, gather in Sligo on the last weekend in April for a rally reunion.

The cars drove to Donegal Town to visit the The Stables Motorsport Centre, before returning to Sligo town centre for a ceremonial finish on O'Connell Street.

The weekend also included a Gala dinner in the Sligo Park Hotel and a Planes, Coffee and Automobiles event on Sunday morning at Sligo airport.
