Donegal beat Cavan in Ulster U20 championship

Donegal under-20 footballers made a winning start to their 2024 Ulster Championship campaign on Wednesday night with a 2-15 to 0-16 win over Cavan at Kingspan Breffni.

Two first-half goals proved critical scores in this game for Donegal as three-points from AVS Donegal All-Ireland winning captain Senan Carr and Patrick McElwee helped Shaun Paul Barrett's side establish a 2-9 0-7 half-time advantage.

Despite some wobbly moments in the second half, Donegal managed to keep their noses in front and ran out five points winners by the finish.

Donegal are in a four-team Section B, which also includes Armagh and Fermanagh.

Section A: Antrim, Derry, Down, Monaghan, Tyrone

Section B: Armagh, Cavan, Donegal, Fermanagh

The top team in each group progress to the Ulster U20 semi-finals. The second and third place teams would criss-cross and play each other in two quarter-finals.

There will be provincial and national tier 2 knockout competitions for counties who do not qualify for the Ulster U20 quarter-foinals

The winners of the two quarter-finals progress to the semi-finals, while the two quarter-final losers are eliminated. The two teams that lose in the semi-finals will also be eliminated.
