Donegal hurlers beat Derry in Conor McGurk Cup

Donegal hurlers were convincing 4-24 to 1-8 winners over Derry in Saturday's Conor McGurk Cup quarter-final in Convoy.

In a one-sided contest, Mickey McCann's charges, who are the holders, restricted their opponents to 1-1 in the first half as the established a 1-12 to 1-11 interval lead.

That advantage grew in the second half as Donegal eventually won by 25 points to set up a semi-final meeting with Fermanagh next Tuesday evening.

The Ernemen beat Queen's in their last-eight game on Saturday by eight points.

Ulster hurling's warm-up competition is named to honour the memory of former Queen’s University hurling club member, Conor McGurk, who passed away suddenly in 2014.

Conor studied Science at Queen’s and was an active member of the university hurling club.

He played in two Fitzgibbon finals and was twice picked as goalkeeper on combined University teams, the highest accolade in Higher Education hurling.
