Late points from Peader Mogan and Paddy McBrearty edged Donegal to a low-key 1-13 to 2-8 win over Down in Friday night's McKenna Cup opener at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey.
The home side had the lions share of possession for much of the contest but had to rely on those scores in the closing moments after Down had worked their way back into the game in closing quarter through an Odhran Murdock goal.
