Donegal name Paddy Carr as new manager

Donegal GAA confirmed Paddy Carr as the county's new senior football manager at Monday night's county board meeting in Convoy.

Armagh All-Ireland winning footballer Aidan O'Rourke will be the team's head coach.

Carr, who has strong family connections to north west Donegal, is a member of Fanad Gaels GAA club - and played senior intercounty football for Donegal at various stages between 1980 and 1987.

He previously managed Louth (as did O'Rourke) and Meath minors, and guided Kilmacud Crokes to an All-Ireland Club football title in 2009.

He has also managed Burren (Down), St Brigid's (Roscommon), Summerhill (Meath) and Ballymun Kickhams (Dublin).

Carr's been appointed on a two-year term, which will be reviewed after year one.

Addressing county board delegates on Monday night, Carr revealed that he is resigning his current role as Principal of a secondary school in Navan to concentrate on the demands of the Donegal job.

Carr spoke to Ocean FM Sport's Ciaran Cannon following Monday night's meeting.

Earlier, Donegal GAA Chair Mick McGrath informed delegates that the selection committee spoke to Jim McGuinness, Karl Lacey, Martin McHugh, Shaun Paul Barrett and Rory Kavanagh during the search for a new bainisteoir.

The county had been seeking a new manager since last July when Declan Bonner stood down from the role.
