Donegal's Kate Keaney in Gold Cup success with US soccer team

The United States women's soccer team clinched the inaugural Gold Cup on Sunday night with a 1-0 win over Brazil in the final in San Diego.

The women's Gold Cup is a new international tournament for the 33 CONCACAF nations with 12 countries contesting the finals.

Donegal Town native Kate Keaney was part of the US backroom team.

She moved to the States two years ago to work as a senior sports scientist with the US Soccer Federation.

A former All-Ireland-winning gaelic footballer with Donegal, Keaney previously worked with the Ireland women's rugby team, and had taken up a role with the FAI and the national soccer team shortly before her move the US in 2022.

Her brother Jack currently plays League of Ireland football with Drogheda Utd, while another brother Luke (a former Donegal county gaelic footballer) is a noted coastal rower with Donegal Bay Rowing Club.
