Drumcliffe/Rosses Point clinch Sligo intermediate title

Drumcliffe/Rosses Point clinched the Sligo LGFA Connacht Gold intermediate football title in Curry on Saturday with a spirited 4-5 to 1-8 victory over Geevagh.

Having lost both the intermediate and senior county finals 12 months earlier, Saturday's win was a fitting reward for the North Sligo club.

The six-point winning margin perhaps doesn't fully reflect the closeness of this final as opponents Geevagh, relegated from senior football last season, pushed their opponents all the way.

It was only in the closing stages of the game when two DRP goals inside 60 seconds from Sinead Regan and Player of the Match Katie McDonagh effectively decided the contest.

Tommy Oates, who co-manages Drumcliffe/Rosses Point alongside Barry O'Sullivan, spoke to Ocean FM Sport's Rachael Brennan after Saturday's game.

Drumcliffe/Rosses Point will now prepare for a Connacht Club IFC semi-final against the Mayo champions in three weeks time.

In Saturday's junior 'A' championship final, Coolera/Strandhill and Curry played out a draw at Kilcoyne Park in Tubbercurry - and will have to meet again.
