Ed McGinty joins Shamrock Rovers

Goalkeeper Ed McGinty has joined Shamrock Rovers from Sligo Rovers ahead of the new 2025 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season.

The Scottish-born, Donegal-raised player was a key performer for Sligo Rovers last season where he was an ever-present while on loan from Oxford United.

However, he has long been a transfer target for Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley - and now the Tallaght club have finally got their man.

Sligo Rovers  were keen to retain McGinty, who's 25 years of age, and re-sign him on a permanent basis - but the lure of European football with the Dublin Rovers is understood to have been a big attraction for the player.

Speaking to the Shamrock Rovers website, Mc Ginty said: "It wasn’t too difficult leaving Oxford, but it was always difficult leaving Sligo Rovers.

"It’s been a big part of my life so that was a tough part.

"At the same time, Shamrock Rovers is the biggest club in Ireland, what they’ve done in Europe is incredible, so I want to come and help them and improve them."

McGinty has signed what Shamrock Rovers describe as a 'multi-year deal' as he parts company with his parent club Oxford.
