Finn Harps suffered a 1-0 home defeat against bottom-of-the-table UCD at Finn Park in Friday night's SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game.
Liam Kerrigan's second-half header was enough to give the students a priceless three points which moves them to within two points of second-from-bottom Harps.
In the night's other games, leaders Shamrock Rovers beat Derry City 1-0 in the top-of-the-table clash at Tallaght Stadium.
