The GAA's management committee will meet this evening (Thurs) to finalise the format of this year's All-Ireland football and hurling championship.
The format will be made public at a GAA news conference on Friday.
The indications are that the football championship will have no backdoor system this year.
Croke Park's intention is to complete the All-Ireland championships before Christmas.
Intercounty action will resume in mid-October with the remaining two rounds of Allianz Football League games - to decide the outstanding promotion and relegation issues.
Donegal and Leitrim still need to preserve their status in Divisions 1 and 3 respectively, while Sligo, with two games remaining, are still in the promotion hunt in Division 4.
