Sligo's bid for a third consecutive Connacht under-20 football title came to an end on Wednesday evening in Castlebar as an impressive Galway outplayed and outscored the holders to win on a final scoreline of 0-23 to 1-12.
The damage, from a Sligo point of view, was done in the opening quarter.
The holders looked off colour from the throw-in as Galway established a 0-10 to 0-1 lead inside the first 15 minutes.
Connor Flynn's well-worked goal gave Sligo a glimmer of hope on the stroke of half-time as Galway led going in by 0-13 to 1-2.
Sligo closed the gap to 0-6 at one stage in the second half - but Galway never looked in any real danger of losing control of this semi-final - and they eventually ran out comfortable eight-point winners.
Galway now play Roscommon in the Connacht under-20 football final on Saturday, May 4th.
