Sligo Rovers have announced the appointment of John Russell as the new Senior Men’s Team Manager.
The 37 year-old had taken the team on an interim basis for the previous two fixtures following the departure of Liam Buckley.
Under his temporary stewardship, Rovers earned four points out of a possible six following a win over Derry City and a draw with UCD.
Russell’s first competitive game in charge will take place against Finn Harps on June 18th at The Showgrounds at 7.45pm.
In his time as a player, the Moycullen native was the winner of 2 FAI Cups, an EA Sports Cup and a Setanta Cup at The Showgrounds across three different spells.
He was also part of the St. Patrick's Athletic that won the league title in 2013.
He departed Sligo Rovers as a player at the end of 2017 to take up a full-time coaching and development role with the FAI as Regional Development officer for Sligo/Leitrim.
Russell returned to The Showgrounds in 2019 to become First Team Assistant Manager under Liam Buckley.
