Kelly finishes eighth as weather wreaks havoc in Galway

Donegal Town's David Kelly has secured an eighth place finish in this year's Corrib Oil Galway International Rally at Loughrea.

25 year old Kelly, driving a Ford Fiesta R5 alongside navigator Convoy's Dean O'Sullivan finished four minutes and forty-one seconds behind winner Josh Moffett of Monaghan.

Conditions were farm from ideal throughout the weekend with many drivers suffering punctures and other difficulties with their respective cars.

Garry Jennings from Kesh who was navigated by Letterkenny's Rory Kennedy finish fourth.

Declan Boyle, who was at eleventh place at the time, retired early from the rally at stage nine. Ballymote's David Quinn finished eleventh in classification 14.

Meanwhile, Niall Burns, originally of Garavogue Villas in Sligo and now based out of Kilmacrennan in Donegal produced a strong second leg of the course finishing 26th in the overall standings.

Competitors will travel to Clonakilty next month for the West Cork International Rally between the dates of 19th and 20th March.
