Ladies Gaelic Football Association votes to merge with GAA

Delegates at the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) Congress  in Belfast have voted overwhelmingly in favour of integrating with the GAA and Camogie Association.

The vote was 67-8 in favour of merging with the sporting bodies.

The Gaelic Players Association couldn't propose a direct motion of its own at this Congress, but had called for support for the Galway motion, which was the central item on the agenda for discussion.

The Galway motion proposes amending this rule to include a commitment to "unite with the GAA with the aim of becoming a partnership of equals".

Captains of the 31 ladies county football panels represented by the GPA met on a video call earlier this week where it was agreed unanimously that players support the sentiment expressed in the Galway motion.

Donegal LGFA were among the counties this week to publicly support closer integration with the GAA and the Camogie Association.

The LGFA Congress at the Europa Hotel in Belfast continues on Saturday.
