Double Olympian Eddie Leddy will be inducted into the Leitrim Sports Star Awards Hall of Fame at a ceremony next month.
Leddy, who’s a native of Drumreilly, and now lives in Tennesse, competed for Irelandi at the 1972 (Munich) and 1976 (Montreal) Olympics, and will receive his award at the Landmark Hotel in Carick-on-Shannon on Saturday, February 8th.
The annual awards will celebrate sporting achievement in Leitrim during 2024
Leitrim’s All-Ireland winning women’s gaelic footballers, the Leitrim U20 hurlers, Mohill senior men’s footballers and Glencar/Manorhamilton’s senior women’s footballers are among the Team of the Year nominations this year.
Sean McDermott Boxing Club in Manorhamltion is one of four shortlisted for Club of the Year - with Jason Clancy again shortlisted for coach of the year, an award he won last year.
The Junior Sports individual nominees include: Carrick Rugby Club and Sligo Grammar School’s Diarmaid O’Connell; Manor rangers and Glencar/Manor’s Nessa Fox – and Carrick Town FC's Caragh Guckian, who scored the winning goal for Sligo Leitrim in last year’s U14 Gaynor Cup final.
