There were awards for several local athletes and officials at the 123.ie National Athletic Awards held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Santry on Wednesday.
Sligo's Athletic Club's John McDermott's triple gold medal success at the 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg saw him receive the Masters Athlete of the Year Award.
The Ireland women's 4x400 metres relay team were named Team of the Year.
Sophie Becker, Rhasidat Adeleke, Phil Healy, and Sharlene Mawdsley set a national record en route to finishing fourth in the women’s 4x400m relay final at Paris 2024.
The quartet ran a time of 3:19.9, missing out on the bronze medal by just 0.18 seconds.
The team, which also included Sligo AC's Lauren Cadden and Rachel McCann, qualified automatically for the final, with Becker, Healy and Mawdsley joined by Tir Chonaill AC's Kelly McGrory in finishing third in their heat.
Sligo Athletics Club official Anne McHugh tireless dedication to local and national athletics over the last 30 years was recognised, as she received the 'Official of the Year' acccolade.
