Local sports partnerships get additional funding

Sport Ireland has allocated almost €270,000 to local sports partnership projects across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

The cash has been allocated from Dormant Accounts Funding. A dormant account is an account that has shown no activity for 15 years. Unclaimed money is transferred to a fund managed by the NTMA (National Treasury Management Agency).

SLIGO
€113,885 is going to the Sligo Sports Partnership. It will be spent on the following projects:

  • Community Sports and Physical Activity Hubs
    Bunninadden, Sligo                €35,000
    Sligo East City- Cranmore     €20,000
These Hubs provide information, support and advice on a wide range of sports and physical activities to make it easier for people in disadvantaged areas to get involved in and engage in a more active and healthier lifestyle.
  • Volunteer Training & Support Programme €15,000
  • Sports Inclusion Disability Programme (SIDP) Capital Supports €10,000
  • Urban Outdoor Adventure Initiatives  €33,885
Opportunities for young people living in disadvantaged communities to experience outdoor adventure sports is limited due to natural environments, distance from traditional outdoor settings (forests, mountains etc.) where activities are usually offered, and need for equipment, supervision, training and support.

DONEGAL
