Local surfers compete for Ireland at World Surfing Games

Local surfers compete for Ireland at World Surfing Games

The Irish Surfing team have finished in the top 30 at the World Surfing Games in El Salvador this week.

Sligo’s Gearoid McDaid (pictured)  and the Rossnowlagh duo of Una Britton and Maia Monaghan were part of the six-strong Ireland team at the Games which form part of the qualification process for next year’s Paris Olympics.

In the men's event, McDaid finished 49th out of 163 surfers.

Monaghan and Britton both tied for 73d (out of 127 entrants) in the women's individual.

There were 63 nations competing in all.

The overall team event was won by Peru with France 2nd, Brazil 3rd and Japan 4th.
