Lucy Quinn starts for Ireland against Canada

Lucy Quinn, the Birmingham City player with strong Sligo family connections, has been named to start for the Republic of Ireland soccer team in Wednesday's vital World Cup Group B game against Canada in Perth at 1pm (Irish time).

Quinn, whose grandfather Edward was from Ballymote, comes in for Marissa Sheva.

It's one of two changes made by head coach Vera Pauw to the Ireland team which lost 1-0 to co-hosts Australia last Thursday.

The second alteration was enforced with Áine O’Gorman coming in for Heather Payne who felt a tweak in her hamstring during the warm-up.

Louise Quinn and Heather Payne both start after passing earlier fitness tests.

There is still no starting place for Donegal striker Amber Barrett who again takes her place on the bench.

Ireland need at least a draw against Olympic champions to keep their hopes of progressing out of Group B alive.

The game is live on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player from 1 o'clock.
