Mona McSharry underlined her credentials as a genuine medal contender in the women's 100 metres breaststroke on Sunday morning when she qualified for this afternoon's semi-finals second fastest overall.
Her time of 1min 4.59secs saw her finish second in her heat just behind Sweden Sophie Hannson (1:05:59) in what was the quickest of the six first-round heats.
McSharry's PB for the distance is 1:04:36, set at last summer's Olympic Games.
She swims her semi-final on Sunday afternoon at 3:48pm (Irish time).
The race will be carried live on Ocean FM.
Elsewhere, the Ireland men's 4x200m freestyle relay team of Jack McMillan, Robbie Powell, Finn McGeever and Jordan Sloan made history on Sunday morning by becoming the first Irish team to qualify for a World Championships relay final.
