McSharry ends Olympics with Irish relay record

Mona McSharry and the Ireland women's 4x100 metres medley relay team rounded off their Paris Olympics on Saturday by setting a new Irish record for the event.

Swimming in lane 1 of their semi-final heat, the Irish quartert of Danielle Hill (backstroke), Mona McSharry (breaststroke), Ellen Walshe (butterfly) and Grace Davison (freestyle) clocked a time of 4:00.12 to improve their previous national record.

They finished sixth in a high-quality semi-final and 11th quickest overall.

While not fast enough to make the final, it was still an encouraging performance by the Irish team.

It also brings the curtain down on a memorable Games for Sligo's McSharry which saw her win Olympic bronze in the women's 100 metres breaststroke.
