Mona McSharry sets new Irish 50m breaststroke record

Mona McSharry's impressive start to the calendar year in the pool continued on Saturday in the United States when the Grange woman set a new Irish record for the women's 50 metres breaststroke when winning the final at the TYR Pro Series event in Knoxsville, Tennessee.

McSharry (22), who's into her third of a Sports Scholarship at the University of Tennessee, was swimming at her 'home' pool when clocking a winning time 30.56 seconds, which improved her own Irish record  by 0.31 seconds.

McSharry finished ahead of Miranda Tucker (31.29) and Sophie Angus (31.72)

It was her third goal medal of the season-opening event, having won both the women's 100m (her Olympic final event) and 200m breaststroke in recent days.
