Sligo’s Mona McSharry made her senior international debut in the 100 metre breaststroke event at the European Championships in London this afternoon.
The 15-year-old from Grange, who swims with the Marlins club in Ballyshannon, was third at the turn in her heat but fell back to ninth to finish in a time of one minute 10-point-two-seven seconds and finishing ahead of experienced Irish team-mate Sycerika McMahon, who warmed up for tomorrow’s 200 metres individual medley with a one minute 11-point-one-eight swim.
Olympic qualifier Fiona Doyle also competed in that heat and is through to this evening’s semi-final after finishing in fifth place in the heat to progress in 12th place overall
