For the second summer in row, Donegal have bowed out of the All-Ireland senior football championship at the 'Super 8s' stage after they lost an absorbing game to Mayo in Castlebar on Saturday evening by 1-14 to 1-10.
On the day, Declan Bonner's side could have few complaints. Mayo, who looked sharper for much of the game, led by 1-7 to 0-4 at the interval with Cillian O'Connor stealing in for the first-half goal.
Donegal tried to rally in the second-half and cut the deficit to two points - but on a wet evening for football, their finishing let them down.
Mayo will face either Dublin or Tyrone in the first of the All-Ireland semi-finals next Saturday evening in Croke Park at 5pm.
