Pat Spillane (Jnr) to join Sligo GAA panel

Pat Spillane junior, son of the legendary Kerry football and TV pundit of the same name, is set to join the Sligo senior gaelic football panel this year.

Spillane, who's 24, is eligible to play for the Yeats County through his mother, Rosarii, who is a native of Sligo.

He has been playing his club football with St Jude's in Dublin in recent times - and helped them reach the 2021 Dublin senior county final where they lost out to Kilmacud Crokes by a single point.

The midfielder was also Man of the Match in Jude's semi-final victory over Lucan Sarsfields.

Five years ago, Spillane Jnr - along with cousins and now Kerry senior players Adrian and Killian Spillane - was part of the Templenoe side in the Kingdom, which won the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship with victory over Ardnaree Sarsfields.

To date, he hasn't featured for Kerry at minor, under-20 or senior level.

Assuming the paperwork is successfully completed, Spillane is expected to link up with the Sligo panel in the coming weeks.

The news comes on the back of Sligo' 1-21 to 1-17 Connacht FBD quarter-final win against Leitrim on Monday night.

Tony McEntee's side now face Roscommon next Saturday in a semi-final at 6pm.

Sligo will begin their national football league Division 4 campaign away to Wexford on Sunday, January 30th.
