Rosses Point's Patrick Flanagan finished seventh in his semi-final heat of the men's S6 400 metres freestyle at the Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday morning.
He set a new personal best for the distance of 5mins 40:48seconds - and told RTÉ afterwards: "My mum is probably like going crazy right now, I'm just so happy to be here and they were so good to me".
Flanagan's time wasn't quick enough to make the final.
He will be back in the pool on Friday morning when he competes in the heats of the 100 metres backstroke.
