A multi-purpose sports facility for Carrick-on-Shannon has progressed to the planning stage according to a report published on Wednesday by the Leitrim Observer.
According to the report, Leitrim County Council in partnership with Shannonside Regional Recreation Campus Company Ltd hope to construct a facility for sporting generations in the county for the years to come.
The plans include one full size all weather pitch, an 8 lane running track with an internal grass pitch and athletics field, indoor basketball courts, gym, changing rooms, function rooms, physiotherapy rooms, internal equipment storage, external equipment storage, hurling wall, stand and viewing area, canteen, boiler rooms, offices, site and pitch lighting, site parking and set down.
The plans also include an upgrade of the existing entrance to St Mary's Kiltoghert GAA's facility, plus all associated site works at Drummagh, Attifinlay and Keenaghan townlands in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The multi-million euro facility cater the demands for an ever-growing town area and its sporting population in Gaelic Games, Soccer, Athletics, Rugby and Basketball.
There is expected to be a strong fundraising campaign in the region along with significant Government financial support to bring the development to fruition.
