Sligo Rovers have confirmed this afternoon that striker Rein Smit has left the club with immediate effect.
In a statement released this morning, Rovers confirmed that Smit will return to his native Netherlands to deal with some personal issues.
The club say that the decision to cancel his contract is mutual, and that Smit has the full support of the club going forward.
Smit himself thanked Sligo Rovers and manager John Russell, and said that departing the club was the right thing for him to do right now.

Sligo Rovers continue their league campaign away to league leaders Shelbourne in Tolka Park on Friday night, and that game will be live in full here on Ocean FM from 7.45pm.
