Sligo and Leitrim footballers on Tailteann Cup Team of the Year

Three Sligo footballers have been named on the inaugural Tailteann Cup Team of the Year, which was announced on Thursday.

Sligo reached the semi-finals of the competition in June before losing to Cavan by three points at Croke Park.

The trio are goalkeeper Aidan Devaney (Calry/St Joseph's), Evan Lyons (Shamrock Gaels), who played at full-back for Sligo but is named at corner-back on the selection, and midfielder Seán Carrabine (Castleconnor).

Keith Beirne's scoring prowess for Leitrim in the competition sees the Mohill clubman also included in the full-forward line.

The Tailteann Cup, the new Tier 2 All-Ireland football championship, was won by Westmeath who have six players on the team.

Beaten finalists Cavan have four, Sligo three with Offaly and Leitrim getting one each.

An independent selection committee decided the final 15 who will be presented with their awards this Friday night at a special black-tie function in Croke Park.
