Sligo minor gaelic footballers collected their first win of the 2022 Connacht minor football championship with a 4-18 to 2-15 victory at Markievicz Park on Friday evening.
The Sligo full forward line of Eli Rooney, James Foley and Shea O'Neill contributed 2-11 of Sligo's total as they took charge of an entertaining and high-scoring contest in the closing quarter.
The final scoreline is a little harsh on Adrian Dockery's side - as Leitrim got off to a super start, racing into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead, with Liam Chandler's goal the opening score of the game.
Sligo led by two points at half-time (1-11 to 2-6) but second-half goals from Eli Rooney and two from Cian Carty helped David Caffrey's side pull clear.
This result sets up a mouthwatering game at Dr Hyde Park next weekend when Roscommon play Sligo to see who will claim a provincial semi-final spot against Galway.
A draw will be enough for Sligo to progress, while Roscommon will have to win to make the semi-final.
Mayo are straight through to the Connacht minor final following their comprehensive victory over Galway in Tuam.
Mayo restricted their opponents to just a single point in the opening half.
Leitrim will complete their campaign next Friday with a home match against Galway but they are now effectively out of contention for the play-off places, unless both they and Roscommon win their respective games next Friday.
In that instance, who gets the third place finish would come down to scoring difference.
