Leitrim got off to the perfect start in Carrick with a goal from Jack Hughes in the opening moments - but Sligo soon settled into the game and once Oisín Hynes found the net midway through the half, they took control of the game.

Eoghan Smith's points from the dead ball and from play were assured as Michael Duffy's side ran out 11-point winners.

Leitrim selector Damien McWeeney gave his postmatch verdict to Ocean FM Sport's Cathal Mullaney:

Four teams - Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo - are now on four points each in the round-robin series. Leitrim are now out of contention and remain pointless at the bottom of the table. The top team will qualify directly for the Connacht final. The second and third-placed teams will contest a provincial semi-final.
