Sligo hurlers into league play-offs after Monaghan win

Sligo hurlers will contest the play-off stage the Allianz League Division 3A following Sunday's 2-23 to 1-20 win over 14-man Monaghan at Markievicz Park.

The result means Sligo remain second in the table and are still unbeaten in the league.

The home side, were without several regulars including Niall Feehily, Rory McHugh and Conor Griffin, while Andy Kilcullen has taken a year out to go to Australia.

They led by 1-9 to 0-9 at the interval, with Monaghan's task complicated by a straight red card for Ethan Flynn for dangerous play just before half-time.

Sligo manager Stephen Shiel spoke to reporter Gavin Cawley after Sunday's win.

The Yeats County will now host top-of-the-table Mayo in their final regulation league game next Saturday (March 16th) at Kent Park in Ballydoogan, at 1pm.
