Athletes from across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are finalising their preparations ahead of the weekend's Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Athletics Championships.
The two-day event takes place at the National Indoor Arena and will be streamed live on Athletics Ireland's Youtube page.
Having recently won 200 metres gold at the Irish Universities Indoor Championships in Athlone, Sligo A.C.'s Lauren Cadden will aim for similar result at the weekend. Also competing in the same event are fellow Sligo athlete and Corran A.C. member Erin Taheny, Alannah McGuinness of Carrick-on-Shannon A.C. and Tír Chonaill A.C.'s Lucy McGlynn.
Gerard O'Donnell will compete in the 60 metres and 60 metre hurdles at Abbotstown. The Carrick-on-Shannon A.C. sprinter faces stiff competition in the 60 metres. Dundalk native Israel Olatunde recently clocked a time of 6.64 at the tender age of 19.
Donegal's Finn Valley A.C. is well represented. Three-time Olympian Brendan Boyce competes in the 5,000 metres walk, an event which he claimed silver in 2020.
Fellow Olympian Mark English competes at his favoured 800 metres and currently holds the Irish record for the event following a 1:44.71 run in Castellón, Spain in June 2021.
Sligo-based athlete John Travers will also be running in his Donore Harriers singlet in the 1500m and 3000m.
