The Sligo-Leitrim Youth and Schoolboys/Schoolgirls league has formally cancelled the 2019/2020 season.
In an email to all clubs on Tuesday, youth soccer officials said the season was finishing with immediate effect, with respect to to the current guidelines on health and safety during the pandemic.
The league has also decided not to hold an AGM. Instead, copies of the league's financial statements will be forwarded to club secretaries within the next week.
It is cruel luck on players, coaches, clubs and officials as the bulk of the season had been already been completed - with just a few weekends of matches outstanding on the fixture list
However, the league felt the right thing to do was to bring the season to an end now.
The Sligo-Leitrim youth soccer committee says it remains committed to returning to soccer as soon as it is safe to do so.
