The Sligo-Leitrim girls under-14 soccer team have qualified for the final of the Gaynor Cup in Limerick, following a dramatic semi-final penalty shoot-out win over The Midlands League on Thursday afternoon.
The Sligo-Leitrim girls won the shootout 5-4 with Coola Post Primary School student and Arrow Harps player Aoibhinn Doherty scoring the winning penalty.
The match had finished scoreless at the end of normal time - and went straight to penalties (no extra-time in the Gaynor).
In the shootout, Sligo-Leitrim converted all five spot kicks, with Midlands missing one of theirs.
12 months ago, Sligo-Leitrim had been knocked out of the Gaynor at the semi-final stage by the same opposition but the roles were reversed this time around.
The final takes place at University of Limerick on Friday - with SL awaiting the winners of Thursday's second semi-final between Dublin's DDSL and South Belfast.
Friday's final will be livestreamed on the FAI Schoolgirls YouTube channel here.
