Sligo minor gaelic footballers lost their opening game of this year's Connacht minor football championship on Friday evening as they lost out to last year's All-Ireland champions Galway at Markievicz Park on a final scoreline of 1-13 to 1-9.
Sligo actually led by a point at half-time (1-4 to 0-6) but Galway improved in the second-half to run out four point winners.
In the evening's other game, defending Connacht champions Mayo beat Roscommon by 2-17 to 0-11.
Leitrim minors make their championship entrance next Friday evening against David O'Neill's Sligo in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The top three teams from the round-robin series will qualify for the provincial championship play-offs.
