Sligo Rovers women suffered 4-2 defeat away to Athlone Town in Saturday night's SSE Airtricity League fixture.

Donegal's Amy Boyle Carr (pictured) gave Rovers an early lead with her first goal for the club - but by half time, Athlone (with Gurteen's Roisin Molloy and Manor's Muireann Devaney in their starting 11) led 3-1 by half-time thanks to two goals from Gillian Keenan and a third from Kellie Brennan.

Paula McGrory gave Rovers fresh hope in the closing quarter, scoring from a header in the 77th.

However, while Emma Doherty had chances to score an equaliser, Athlone made the game safe in the closing moments when substitute Emily Corbett made it 4-2.
