Sligo Rovers lose 1-0 in Iceland

Sligo Rovers were beaten 1-0 on Thursday night by Icelandic side FH Hafnarfjördur in the first leg of their Europa Conference League tie.

The goal which decided the contest was scored in the 85th minute by Steven Lennon.

It was cruel luck on Sligo Rovers who has the better of the game over 90 minutes.

However, the work was somehat undone in the closing quarter when team captain Greg Bolger, who impressed for much of the game, received second yellow card for a dive in the FH penalty area.

Shortly before that, excellent work from substitute Walter Figueria set up Jordan Gibson inside the area, but his shot was inadvertently deflected wide by Romeo Parkes.

Rovers had enough chances to win the game but, on the night, none was taken.

The second leg takes place at the Showgrounds next Thursday, July 15th, at 6pm - and will be broadcast live on Ocean FM.
