Two Sligo Rowing Club members missed the start of a big race last weekend - so that they could help a fellow competitor whose boat capsized on the way to the start.

Glenn Patterson and Brian Colch (pictured above) were competing for Sligo RC in the Metropolitan Rowing Regatta on Blessington lake - one of the sport's biggest regattas in Ireland - when they noticed another rower had capsized en route to the start.

The competitor in question was Lucy Massey from Cappoquin Rowing Club from County Waterford, who took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to extend her appreciation to Glenn and Brian:
