Sligo schools impress at Connacht Cross County finals

Sligo secondary schools enjoyed major success on Sunday at the 2022 Connacht Schools Cross Country Championship finals in Loughrea.

Athletes from the Ursuline College, Summerhill College, St Attracta's Tubbercurry and Jesus & Mary Secondary School, Ennisrone, collected several individual and team medals.

There was also an impressive run by Sarah Brady from St Claire's Manorhamilton, who won individual silver in the senior girls race - with Ursuline College, Sligo, taking senior team gold.

The Ursuline also won the team event in the in the minor girls race with Emma Carroll taking individual bronze.

Summerhill College won the junior boys team event. John Paul Flanagan won individual bronze here.

There was success too for St Atttracta's Tubbercurry with the junior girls team winning silver.

Summerhill won the intermediate boys team gold - while individual medals went to Darragh Mulrooney from Jesus & Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone (silver) Francis Donoghue from Summerhill (bronze).

Meanwhile in the swimming pool, Summerhill College students were amongst the medal at the Connacht Senior Schools Swimming Finals, held in Castlebar.

Ronan Kilcoyne won gold in the 400m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and the 100m freestyle.

There were three bronze medals for Dominic French in the 200m IM and 400m freestyle - while Cameron McDaid took bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Sligo Grammar School's Killian Langton was also a medal winner on Sunday, claiming bronze in the 200m IM.
