Sligo Athletic Club's John McDermott trophy-laden 2024 received has received additional silverware after he as named European Masters Sprint Athlete of the Year.
McDermott, who's 80 years of age and a native of Boyle in Co Roscommon, receives the award for his triple gold medal successes at both the outdoor World Championships in Sweden, and the indoor European championships in Poland earlier this year.
He also set new world records for the outdoor 200m and the indoor 400m.
McDermott, who was naominated for two gongs at the Ocean FM Sports Awards last month, was also recently named Masters Athlete of the Year at the recent National Athletics Awards in Dublin.
