Strandhill events planned for International Surf Day

The National Surf Centre in Strandhill has a day of activity planned for International Surfing Day this Saturday, June 15th, 2024.

To mark the occasion, the National Surf Centre are working with Clean Coasts and Tides Surf Magazine to host a beach clean-up, and Ireland’s largest second-hand surfboard drive.

Rebecca Stevens, Director of Operations at the National Surf Centre, spoke to Ocean FM Sport's Austin O'Callaghan.

International Surfing Day is a worldwide celebration of the sport of surfing.

Traditionally themed around environmental awareness and the sustainability of ocean resources, it also promotes surfing in an attempt to attract new surfers.

The day’s events are open to surfers and non-surfers alike, and kicks off with the beach clean-up from the National Surf Centre at 10am.

Over 70 surf boards are already registered for the Second Hand Surfboard Drive in collaboration with Tides Surf Magazine which runs from 2pm to 4pm in the Centre. All boards are welcome, as are those looking to trade up!

They will also be running a membership drive on site during the day for those interested in joining up.

Now into its third week, the Strandhill Surf Folk photo exhibition by Mark Capilitan will be open upstairs in the Centre from 12-4pm.
