The old disused soccer pitch at Summerhill College in Sligo is to be transformed into a new housing estate.
The Sligo Champion reports that planning permission has been granted for a 53-home estate on the land which is situated between the back of St John's Primary School on Temple Street and Summerhill Village.

The pitch, located beside the old handball alleys on the site of the now derelict Old Building at Summerhill, was used by countless college soccer teams down through the decades - and was also used for local club fixtures by the Sligo Leitrim junior soccer leagues.
It hosted the last ever MacArthur Cup final, a popular competition named after a local bakery in the town, which was played between businesses in Sligo.
