Understrength Leitrim bow out of Connacht U20 Championship

Leitrim under-20 gaelic footballers bowed out of the Connacht Championship at Tuam Stadium on Tuesday evening following a 2-9 to 0-6 loss to Galway in a competitive semi-final.

Benny Guckian's side produced a commendable performance over the hour and the contest was much closer than the nine-point winning margin for the Tribesmen suggests.

Leitrim were missing a number of influential players for this game including team captain Michael McKiernan through illness and Conor Quinn & Danny McWeeney because of injury.

Their hopes received a further setback before throw-in when Glencar/Manor's talented youngster Barry McNulty was pulled from the squad in preparations for Leitrim's Connacht senior championship trip to New York this weekend.

Guckian expressed his disappointment with McNulty's withdrawal when he spoke to Ocean FM Sport's John Lynch after the game.
