The World Rally Championship (WRC) is set to return to Ireland for the first time since 2009 as motorsport’s governing body, the FIA, is lining up Northern Ireland as a stage for the 2022 season.
British publication Motorsport News reports that the FIA World Motorsport Council has approved another 13-round WRC season, and the indications are that the inclusion of Rally Northern Ireland is a formality once Government funding is approved.
Sligo was the base for the WRC when a stage was last held on the island 13 years ago.
