Almost 130 vacant social homes brought back into use in North West

Almost 130 vacant social homes have been brought back into use in the North West under the Voids Programme in 2022.

 

The programme supports local authorities in preparing vacant homes for re-letting.

Figures released by Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien show that Donegal had the highest number of such properties returned to active use.

 

Donegal County Council brought a total of 78 vacant social homes back into use under the programme, recouping €858,000 from the Department of Housing.

37 such vacant homes were brought back into use in Sligo with Sligo County Council recouping €407,000.

 

While in Leitrim, 13 homes were brought back to life, resulting in Leitrim County Council recouping €143,000

 

Nationally in 2022, 2,307 vacant social homes were brought back into active use last year under the programme.

 

The programme builds on the ongoing work to tackle vacancy and dereliction and bring vacant properties into re-use for housing.
