Up to 7,500 jobs across Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim are vulnerable because of Brexit and propopsed new legislation going through the Oireachtas, according to the author of a new study.
The economic impact study was commissioned by the Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland.
Its author agri-economist Ciaran Fitzgerald says Brexit has already led to a surge in cross-border shopping while the Public Health Alcohol Bill has a number of proposals that are very anti-small business, including restrictions on labelling and advertising.
He says together they create the perfect storm for the drinks sector.
The industry is now calling on the government to introduce a range of measures to help it.
