The new National Famine Museum in Strokestown Co.Roscommon will open its doors today.
The visitor attraction is expected to welcome over one hundred thousand tourists a year and will provide new jobs for the local economy.
The museum includes a multi-media exhibition which will tell the history of the Famine.
Failte Ireland and The Irish Heritage Trust invested 5 million euro into the museum.
CEO of Failte Ireland Paul Kelly says its a signature project.
