Sligo Rovers moved off the foot of the SSE Airtricity League table following a 2-0 win over Derry City on Friday evening.
This fixture at the Ryan McBride Brandywell - the first of the resumed season - saw Rovers dominate for long stages.
They hit the front with a headed effort from Kyle Callan McFadden in the 19th minute, the Donegal man applying the finish from Regan Donelon's corner kick.
1-0 ahead at the interval, Rovers doubled their advantage when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Ronan Coughlan in the 51st minute. The striker dusted himself off to find the net from the spot kick.
The result - Rovers first win of the campaign - is enough to lift them off the bottom of the table, with Cork City not in action until Sunday.
